System requirements

Online access (desktop and PDA)

For online access from a desktop (or laptop) computer, UpToDate online is validated for use with the current versions of the following browsers:

• Internet Explorer
• FireFox
• Opera
• Safari

We recommend a connection speed of at least 56K. Cookies and JavaScript must be enabled (for further information, refer to your browser's Help or technical support facility).

Your web-enabled PDA device or phone may be able to access UpToDate online at http://pda.uptodate.com if your device supports HTML, cookies, and JavaScript. Not all devices or services are validated or supported.

Desktop installations (Windows and Macintosh)

The minimum requirements for installing UpToDate on a desktop (or laptop) computer are as follows:

• Windows PC with a 500 MHz or greater Pentium-class processor running Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, or Vista

  or

  Macintosh computer with an 800 MHz or greater processor running Mac OS 10.3 or later.

• 256 MB of RAM or greater (512 MB recommended).
• 2.0 GB free hard drive space.
• DVD drive.
• Monitor supporting 1024 X 768 or greater resolution with at least 256 colors.

PDA installations (Pocket PC, Smartphone, and Palm)

The minimum requirements for installing UpToDate on a PDA device are as follows:

• Device running Windows Mobile 5 or Windows Mobile 6 for Pocket PC or Smartphone. The device must have an SD memory card slot.

  Note: Due to variations in the implementation of the Windows Mobile operating system by different PDA device manufacturers, the installed version of UpToDate may not operate correctly on certain devices. However, you can access UpToDate online at http://pda.uptodate.com from any web-enabled PDA device.

  or

  One of the following devices running Palm OS: Palm Centro, Palm TX, Treo 650, Treo 680, Treo 700p, Treo 755p, or LifeDrive. The device must have an SD memory card slot.

• SD memory card that is compatible with your device. 2 GB free space on the card is required for a full installation (all program files, topics, graphics, and abstracts); 1 GB free space is required for a minimum installation (program files and topics only).

  Note: You must use the SD memory card to install UpToDate, regardless of whether your device is equipped with internal storage.

• Windows-based PC running Windows 2000, XP, or Vista that is equipped with a DVD drive.
• Memory card reader that is compatible with your PC.
